At the last BBQ, several neighbours discussed how lovely it would be to have peafowl in the Villas, adding the perfect touch to our area.   It would be hoped that they would be based largely around the roundabaout and lower down the road but essentially, they would be "free range". After investigating the subject further, i have discovered that they can make some noise at times. Also they like to roost in trees but are sometimes known to sit on car rooves, presumably thinking they are different kinds of trees! How do others feel about having peafowl - probably just a pair and though breeding is possible it is not that likely apparently?

I agree. But they do make an awful lot of noise, particularly when roosting. And I don't know what they eat - I saw them in the wild in Rajestan in the middle of the desert where there was very little food about - but they are fairly hefty birds. Perhaps we could have some fan-tailed pigeons instead.

Could a fox kill a peacock?

If you'd like to hear how noisy peacocks are, there's one in Hanchurch Woods. Go down Dog Lane, go up the hill past the woodcutters cottage on your right and the old water tower car park on your left. Proceed downhill and at the bottom of the hill is a cottage on the left. If you go at dusk, you'll hear the fellow in full flow.

Whilst I do like peacocks, I think the noise might become an issue!
