One thing is for sure, any property developers will be disappointed as no15 is Grade II listed and they will not be allowed to make that type of internal alteration to the property, I understand that is why the development originally stalled, the owner was told he couldn't turn it in to flats.

Does it mention the house's listed status in the auction details?

Hi Mike,

It does mention in the auction that the building is listed, however the estate agents are going to great length to mention that it only really affects the exterior of the building really and it appears from the internal viewing that the damage internally is already complete.  The original tiles are so badly damaged now and half ripped up so to are some internal walls which have holes knocked in them to show how it could be one room to the back rather than two.

There has already being an offer on the property which the owner is presently considering, and hate to say it but some developers have looked around the property too.

Dear Jo,

Do you want to know about the older history of No. 15?  It is before my time in the Villas but Arnold Machin lived in the house. You may not have heard of him but he was a famous artist and designer who started work as a painter at Spode and ended up designing coins and stamps - I think that he designed one of the cameos of the Queen's head .  He is famous in Villas history for chaining himself  to a lamp-post on the roundabout when the council removed the original cast-iron lamp-posts - that reached the national press. If you want to know more about the history of the house I might be able to help.
